CHAPTER V β COCOON (Dark Moon)
Prologue β The Wide Quiet
Nothing is lost in the dark. It is only becoming unmade enough to begin again.
The last light leaves the grove. The Luna folds her wings and sinks into the hush. This is not ending; this is dissolving. In moth-lore, the cocoon is the holy dark chamber where all shapes are allowed to unmake themselves. The body turns to silk and soup; the old self melts. No creature rushes this. No eye peers inside. To work COCOON is to enter a protected dark where emotional noise softens, shadow rises gently, and the inner voice returns in its smallest, truest whisper.
Grounding for the Dark (Required)
Dark Moon work is tender. Before you light the candle, soften the body:
- Drop your shoulders until they feel like warm sand.
- Unclench your jaw β let the tongue rest at the floor of the mouth.
- Place one hand over the belly, one over the heart. Breathe in for 4, out for 8.
- Name your state in one word: tired, numb, hopeful, overwhelmed, soft, ready.
You do not enter Cocoon with force. You enter with honesty.
Moon & Moth Lore
Dark Moon magic is not destruction β it is disassembly with consent. In the sky, the Moon disappears. In the cocoon, the moth dissolves into a chamber that holds every version of itself. Old witches called this phase the quiet unbinding: the night where burdens are loosened thread by thread.
This chapter is medicine for:

- Light the candle. Let your shoulders drop as if someone carefully set down a heavy bag you were carrying.
- Say softly: "I do not have to be anything right now."

π Deep Path β Dream & Shadow Unbinding (15β30+ minutes)
A quiet rite for emotional decompression and subconscious clarity.
- Lay the night-table: candle at center, small bowl of water to the west, pinch of salt to the north, journal and pen in front of you.
- Light the candle and say: "I enter the chamber."
- On the page, write: "Something inside me wants to be heard." Leave a few lines under it blank.
- Dream-door breath: inhale for 4, hold for 1, exhale for 6 β repeat 3β4 times, letting the shoulders lower with each exhale.
- Hover your hand above Mugwort and whisper: "Show me gently."
- Write what rises in fragments or short phrases only. No explaining, no fixing. Just catching what surfaces: "lonely at night", "afraid of changing jobs", "miss my old self".

Water omen: look into the bowl:
- Still surface β clarity is present; your words are enough for tonight.
- Trembling surface β emotional noise; place a hand on your heart and breathe 4/6 three more times.
- Touch Hyssop and say: "Only what is mine stays." Touch Violet and say: "Let tenderness return."
- Close the page with one final line: "I can hold this more gently now."
- Snuff the candle. Fold the page once (not twice) and place it under the plate until New Moon. The work continues while you rest.
π Craftmaster Path β The Womb of Truth (30β45+ minutes)
For seasoned witches seeking omens, feedback, and psychic recalibration.
- Consecrate the chamber: place Mugwort to the west (dream), Hyssop to the north (purification), Violet to the east (peace). Candle at the center.
- Write your Shadow Line: "I am the one who avoids ______ because ______."
- Write your Dream Line: "I long for ______ because ______."
- Remove vowels and duplicate consonants from both sentences. Use the remaining letters to sketch a simple Night-Sigil above the lines.
- Censing: gently waft the candle's smoke/scent toward the sigil three times, saying: "Unmake what is false. Keep what is mine."

Stone trinity:
- Place Amethyst on the Shadow Line (soothe the fear).
- Place Howlite on the Dream Line (quiet the doubt).
- Place Shell over the Night-Sigil (hold the becoming).
- After a few breaths, snuff the candle for safety and place one safe drip of wax in the center of the sigil:
- Round, even seal β truth accepted; integration begins.
- Wide oval β more rest is needed; continue dreamwork tonight.
- Jagged edges β resistance present; name the fear honestly in one short line.
- Beneath everything, write one tiny kindness you will perform for yourself in the morning (a warm drink, a slow shower, a 5-minute stretch).
- Return Shell to that "kindness line" and leave it there until sunrise.
If you feel numb: Cocoon isn't about feeling a certain way. It's about restoration. Let numbness be a valid state.
